Where Abel lived
PlakettAs a student, Niels Henrik Abel lived in Lille Grensen 5. In 2002 a plaque was affixed to the building by the Oslo Heritage Society.

Abel’s asteroid
An asteroid has been named for Niels Henrik Abel: The International Astronomical Union decided in 2002 to name the asteroid previously designated 1992 RZ_5, which was discovered by E.W. Elst at La Silla Observatory in Chile on 2 September 1992, for Niels Henrik Abel. It has now been designated 8525 Nielsabel.
