Abel Lectures 2005 on the web

Three other prominent mathematicians gave honourary lectures. The lectures were filmed and can now be viewed on the Abel Prize webpage, see link below. Sebastian Noelle, CMA Oslo/RWTH Aachen, Peter Sarnak, Princeton University and Stephanos Venakides, Duke University gave lectures in honour of the Abel Laureate. 200 people attended the Abel Lectures that was chaired by professor Ingrid Daubechies from Princeton University and professor Don Zagier from Max Planck Institute for Mathematics, both members of the Abel Comittee. |
LATEST NEWSErnesto Lupercio wins the Ramanujan Prize
Professor Ernesto Lupercio, Instituto Politécnico Nacional, Mexico, has been named the winner of the 2009 Srinivasa Ramanujan Prize. This was announced today, 22nd of December by the International Centre of Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy. The award ceremony will take place in Trieste in the summer of 2010. The First Five Years" that contains presentations of the first 5 years' winners, J.-P. Serre (2003), Sir M. Atiyah and I. Singer (2004), P. Lax (2005), L. Carleson (2006) and S.R.S. Varadhan (2007). The Russian-French mathematician Mikhail Leonidovich Gromov, Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques, Bures-sur-Yvette, France received the 2009 Abel Prize from His Majesty King Harald at an award ceremony in Oslo today, 19 May. Her Majesty Queen Sonja also attended the award ceremony. The Minister of Research and Higher Education, Tora Aasland, was among the many other prominent persons present. The Abel Prize that carries a cash award of NOK 6,000,000 (close to € 700,000, US$ 950,000), is awarded by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) will present its annual Ramanujan Prize for young mathematicians from developing countries at an awards ceremony to be held at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters in Oslo on 20 May.
