This year's Abel Prize Laureate

The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has decided to award the Abel Prize for 2007, worth NOK 6,000,000 (USD 920,000, GBP 520,000, EUR 755,000) to

for his fundamental contributions to probability theory and in particular for creating a unified theory of large deviations.

The Abel Committee's citation and the biography of the prize-winner, translated into 12 languages, will give more information.

Professor Tom Louis Lindstrøm gave a popular-science presentation of the prize-winner's work in connection with the announcement at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters 22 March.
