Det var professorene Knut Fægri og Erling Størmer som holdt velkomsttalene. Sir Michael Atiyah snakket om indeksteoremet i et historisk perspektiv. Isadore Singers tema var indeksteoremet og kvantefysikk. I tillegg til prisvinnerne foreleste to andre framstående matematikere; Edward Witten, Institute of Advanced Study, Princeton og Jean-Michel Bismut, Université Paris-Sud.
